Competitive - HAB Select 7th ~ 9th grade Girls

HAB Select is designed to give grades 7th though 9th grade girls within the Yampa Valley region a chance to play competitive basketball. Try-outs will be held and qualified participants will be selected to travel and compete in western slope and front range tournaments. It is HAB's goal that the team(s) participate in tournaments where the participants can have a fun and competitive experience. Participants will gain an understanding of what it takes to compete and be successful at the competitive level.

Important Dates

January 1 - Registration (Try-outs) Opens

Pre-Season Skills Clinics will be held on Sundays in January at the MIddle School. These clinics are drop-in with a $10 donation per clinic. No registration neccessary.

Last Sunday in January - Registration Closes

Try Out + Mandatory Parent Meeting occur during the next 2 Sundays. With teams created and finalized.

Season runs February through the first week in April.

Team Structure/Try-outs

Try-outs will be regionalized to the Yampa Valley (Steamboat Springs, North Routt, South Routt, Hayden, Craig). Try-outs will be held and the best players will be selected to participate. If enough qualified player's try-out: A, B, and C teams may be formed. Participants will be placed on team(s) based on their talent level. Decision on participant placement and cuts will be made by the HAB coaching staff.

Development Team: HAB will not turn away anyone who wants to improve as a basketball player. For those who do not make one of the team(s) the Development Team offers a great chance to improve. Development team players will attend each practice and get the same skill development coaching as all competitive team players.

* Team participants and Development participants will be seperated during practice at times to ensure the team participants have the best chance for success during competition.


The team(s) will participate in western slope and front range tournaments. Western slope locations include but are not limited to: Grand Junction, Rifle, Montrose, Glenwood, Steamboat Springs, etc. Front range locations include but are not limited to the greater Denver area. Tournaments may be one-day and/or two-day overnight tournaments.

Practices will be run by HAB skill development coaches and team coaches. Participants can expect one to two practices per week during the season at Yampa Valley regional schools.

Participant Commitment

Participants will be expected to attend the majority (80 %) of practices and skill development sessions. Participants will be expected to attend all tournaments.

Parent Volunteers

Parent volunteers are a crucial asset to the Competitive program's success! Parents will have the opportunity to volunteer in multiple capacities.
