Programs at a Glance - updated info for summer 2020

Hello High Altitude Basketball Community!

We hope you have been healthy, staying safe and finding opportunities to keep active and enjoy life. Athletics play a big role not only in your child's physical activity but also in their health and well being. We are disheartened to know that we are not able to provide programming for you at this time. Amidst the restrictions by which we are all abiding by for the safety of ourselves and others, we know there is light at the end of the tunnel and we plan to be ready to proceed once allowed to do so.

The Director of Administration, the Recreational Program Coordinator and the Board of Directors have been working hard to figure out when and how to proceed so we can still fulfill our mission to provide basketball opportunities for all. Undoubtedly, the coronavirus pandemic will influence how we carry out our mission going forward but we want to let you know that we are doing all that we can to stay up to date and are prepared to make all the necessary changes.

We are still awaiting further guidance from the state and county, and unfortunately we are in a 'wait and see' position. We have been regularly checking the CDPHE website and making sure we are abiding by the Steamboat Springs County Restrictions with our plans to move forward. Under the state educational restrictions, all school gymnasiums are closed and there are to be no athletic or in-person co-curricular or extracurricular activities until the moratorium expires.

Our summer camps, that were scheduled to begin in just a few short weeks, have been cancelled. However, we are actively working on possible programs later on in the summer that we will be able to host while still complying with whatever restrictions come our way. Be on the lookout for updated information on potential summer programs!

Until we are able to get back into the gyms, you can find several at home workouts on Youtube provided by our partner, 970 Hoops. This week is expected to have fantastic spring weather and if your child has a basketball he/she can work on skills right outside the house! We are here for you amidst the changing lifestyles we are all facing and we look forward to seeing you out on the court soon.

 
HAB Select Girls Grades 7-8
HAB Select is designed to give grades 7th through 8th grade girls within the Yampa Valley region a chance to play competitive basketball. Try-outs will be held (February 9th at SSHS)and qualified participants will be selected to travel and compete in western slope and front range tournaments. It is HAB's goal that the team(s) participate in tournaments where the participants can have a fun and competitive experience. Participants will gain an understanding of what it takes to compete and be successful at the competitive level.

Team Structure/Try-outs

Try-outs will be regionalized to the Yampa Valley (Steamboat Springs, North Routt, South Routt, Hayden, Craig). Try-outs will be held (February 9th at SSHS) and the best 10 players will be selected to participate. Decision on participant placement and cuts will be made by the HAB coaching staff.

2:00 - 3:30 pm - 7th grade girls

3:30 - 5:00 pm - 8th grade girls

Tournament/Games

The team will participate in FOUR western slope and front range tournaments. Western slope locations include but are not limited to: Grand Junction, Rifle, Montrose, Glenwood, Steamboat Springs, etc. Front range locations include but are not limited to the greater Denver area. Tournaments may be one-day and/or two-day overnight tournaments.

March 13- 15 Glenwood Tournament - Hotel rooms have already been blocked out for us.

March 27-28 Montrose Tournament - Hotel rooms have already been blocked out for us.

April 2- 4 Coal Ridge Tournamet - Hotel rooms have already been blocked out for us.




Practice

Practices will be run by HAB skill development coaches and team coaches. Participants can expect one to two practices per week during the season at Yampa Valley regional schools.

Participant Commitment

Participants will be expected to attend the majority (80 %) of practices and skill development sessions. Participants will be expected to attend all tournaments.

Parent Volunteers

Parent volunteers are a crucial asset to the Competitive program's success! Parents will have the opportunity to volunteer in multiple capacities.
