Program Description 


HAB offers basketball camps for all ages and skill levels during the month of June. Starting with Introduction to Basketball for A6 through A8 aged youngsters all the way up to the Youth Advanced Skills Camp for A11 through A15 players. All three individual camps are overseen by Michael Vandahl, HAB’s Director of Basketball Operations.

Introduction to Basketball

Camp Description: The Introduction to Basketball camp is designed to serve as an introduction to the game of basketball for six, seven, and eight year-old boys and girls. The campers will be put in a FUN environment while they learn the basics of basketball.

What Do Campers Get?:

- Four Day Camp (Three hours of court time per day) 
- Campers Get a Basketball 
- Campers will get HAB Gear

- Learn Basic Fundamentals of Basketball

Youth Fundamental Camp

Camp Description: The camp is designed to teach the basic fundamentals of basketball in a fun and challenging environment. The camp is open to all 8, 9, 10 and 11 year olds. All skill levels, beginner to advanced, are welcome.

Youth Advanced Skills Camp

Camp Description: The camp is designed to prepare youth basketball players for the next level of middle school or high school basketball. The campers will be challenged to get outside of their comfort zones and grow and improve their overall game. Campers will leave the camp with drills and new skills that will help them reach the next level of whatever basketball dreams they may have. This camp is for serious basketball players who are driven to improve their Individual Basketball Skill Set and Overall Basketball Game IQ

* 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm: Lunch

- Four Day Camp (Five to Six hours of Court Time per day) 
- Age Groups, Boys and Girls, will be split into groups to maximize court time (Both of SSHS's gyms will be used)

Camp Director/Coaching


Camp Director - Michael Vandahl 

Michael is originally from Steamboat Springs, graduating from Steamboat Springs High School in 2008 where he played under high school coaching legend Kelly Meek. After graduation Michael continued his playing career at the collegiate level playing for three different college programs. Upon graduation he returned to the Yampa Valley and has been involved with HAB and the Basketball community. In the spring of 2015 he was hired as the Head Coach of the Steamboat Springs High School Boys Basketball Program. Michael couldn't be more excited to be back in the Yampa Valley teaching the game he loves!!!

As Camp Director, Michael oversees and facilitates all three of the camps. He will personally coach the Youth Advanced Skills Camp and Direct the Youth Fundamental Camp. Coaches working under Michael at all three of the camps include: Current high school players, current collegiate players, former high school/HAB players, former collegiate players, and speed and strength specialists.

- All State: 2007, 2008 
- Western Slope League Champion: 2005, 2007, 2008 (all undefeated)

- 2008: University of Denver (Division I) 
- 2009 -11: University of Nebraska at Kearney (Division II)
- 2012-13: Western State Colorado University (Division II)
