5/6th Intro to Competitive 2023/24

5/6th Intro to Competitive

***UPDATED*** Tryout December 11th and 13th, 5:45 pm at SSMS. This is a change from our original plan of try outs on Dec 4th and 6th. They are now going to be a week later to not overlap with our Fall Madness Program. Thank you!

Teams will be made of 10 competitive players at most.

Teams will compete in iHoop Nation league, January - February. This league is every other Saturday from January 13th to February 24/25th. We will get 10 games at least with a tournament the final weekend. Please note that the last tournament is the second weekend of Blues Break and we expect to play. Make sure to plan accordingly. Also, I want to get this group one final tournament in early March to finish their season.

Teams will practice two times a week depending on gym availability

The tryout is free and we want anyone with the courage and drive to come out for the teams to do so!

See full information below or on competitive program page.

2023-24 Teams created and rosters out on December 15th, 2023. Depending on numbers at tryouts there could be two teams; otherwise, we will combine our 5/6th graders into one team if that works better. Once your player is on the roster, then you will register for the program on December 9th and before December 12th. We will have our first practices the week before Christmas break begins.

Season runs January through February. Team Structure/Try-outs

Try-outs will be regionalized to the Yampa Valley (Steamboat Springs, North Routt, South Routt, Hayden, Craig). Try-outs will be held and the best 10 players will be selected to participate. Participants will be placed on team(s) based on their talent level. Decision on participant placement and cuts will be made by the HAB coaching staff.

iHoop Nation League -This League is an 6 week league with an end of season tournament based at Sports Stable in Superior and high schools in North Denver. Our schedule is tentatively scheduled for every other Saturday in January and February. The final schedule is still TBD.

Practices will be run by HAB skill development coaches and team coaches. Participants can expect two practices during the week and weekend training available when no travel is committed during the season at Yampa Valley regional schools.

Practice - Starts Dec 18th, 2023

The Competitive Program has options for all serious basketball players. We offer programs for boys and girls from 6th through 12th grades.

The High Altitude Basketball Competitive Program is a branch of the greater non-profit organization (High Altitude Basketball, Inc.), which is comprised of volunteers dedicated to assisting boys and girls in the Yampa Valley and Western Slope region of Colorado. The Competitive Program has three areas of focus:

  1. Improve basketball (boys and girls) in the Yampa Valley Region, Northwest Colorado, and the entire Western Slope region of Colorado.
  2. Provide the youth of the Western Slope region of Colorado the opportunity to play competitive basketball for a program born and raised on the Western Slope of Colorado.
  3. Provide the youth of the Western Slope regions of Colorado the opportunity to gain exposure and competitive basketball experience at all levels.

Participants will develop knowledge, skills and love of the game of basketball while simultaneously emphasizing respect, accountability, and perseverance. Our approach is to teach in a consistent and best of class manner and to serve as a support system for all middle and high school programs within the western slope region. The High Altitude Basketball Competitive Program embraces HAB's five core values: family, community, academics, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
